DIY Doggy Easter Basket + Egg Hunt

If you’re like me, you look for any and every opportunity to partake in festive activities with your pup! Whether or not you celebrate Easter, this season is much different than most. The usual means of celebrating are seemingly impossible, and that can really dampen the bright mood that spring and Easter bring. However, there is no reason we can’t still celebrate in a new way, and why not get our pups involved?!

I am the type of person who LOVES Easter baskets. Why? Because I absolutely love curating an aesthetically-pleasing collection of small items that I know will make someone happy. Spreading joy is one of my very favorite things to do, especially to my pup! Here’s what I put in Theo’s Easter basket this year, hopefully it will help you think of some ideas for your fur baby!

  • Bunny Plush Toy – Nothing says “Easter basket” like a bunny! I was able to find a bungee plush bunny that doesn’t have a lot of stuffing, which works best for our baby who shreds any plush toy he can. That one is currently sold out, so I linked another option that is similar!
  • Hatching Duck Interactive Toy – I thought this was such a fun toy! This toy can be presented as an egg, and the dog has to work to hatch the duckling by inverting the plush material.
  • Spiky Bone Toy – These spiky toys come in all shapes and sizes, and they are Theo’s absolute favorites! So, I added one more to his collection!
  • 2-in-1 Plush Toy – I think this is the coolest find! This is a plush toy that is meant to be destroyed. Your dog can have fun tearing this toy apart to reveal a second toy inside! Theo is going to LOVE this!
  • Lazy Dog Cookie Co. Treats – These are Theo’s very favorite treats! They smell amazing and Theo thinks they taste great!

I got a little plastic bin from the Dollar Tree, and used my Cricut to customize some vinyl for Theo’s basket. Then, I just arranged the items to look as pretty as I could, and voila!

Another way to get your fur baby involved in some fun festivities is by creating an egg hunt for them! If you ever did an egg hunt as a kid, you remember how thrilling these were. The pressure of the race, the mystery of what was inside the egg, and the fun of running around outside with friends and family. Why not give your dog the same great experience? All you have to do is grab some plastic eggs from any grocery or craft store and fill them with your dog’s favorite treats. We used The Lazy Dog Cookie Co. soft-baked treats and broke them into small pieces. Then, place eggs in accessible hiding places either around your house or your yard. Your dog will have a blast sniffing out the eggs, and enjoying the snacks inside!

I hope these ideas help spread a little joy to your families in this difficult time! Happy Easter to all those who celebrate!
