Happy April! For those of you who might be new to our community, each month Theo and I are challenging ourselves to stick to a healthy habit, and encouraging you to join in! Then, we will report back on how it went, what we noticed, and if we will continue with the habit!
Last month, Theo and I challenged ourselves to drink our recommended daily intake of water. For humans, that’s half your body weight in ounces of water. For dogs, that’s their full body weight in ounces of water. This challenge was much easier for Theo than it was for myself. It turns out, when I measured Theo’s water intake, he was gladly surpassing the suggested daily amount. I however, was not. Drinking enough water has always been a habit I have struggled to uphold. While I was not as successful as Theo in reaching my suggested daily intake, I did succeed in increasing my overall water consumption. This was great for my health. I noticed fewer headaches, more energy, and less hunger! We will definitely be keeping up with this habit, and I will continue to work on getting to Theo’s level of success.
For this month, Theo and I will be working on healthy snacking. We love a good snack in this house, but this month, we’re working on choosing healthier options! So, I’ve done a little research to find good choices for us and you, if you choose to join in!
For The Furry Friend:
Sweet Potato Muffins – Full of fiber and other key nutrients, this snack is great for your pup’s digestion!
Hard-Boiled Eggs – Add a little burst of energy with this protein-packed snack!
Bananas – Bananas are full of potassium, which can help reduce stress, and a little extra vitamin C never hurt anybody either!
Parfaits – Layer some plain yogurt with blueberries and strawberries to add some antioxidants to your diet! This snack is enjoyable for dogs and humans alike, but you can always add granola to the human version for a little extra crunch!
Carrots – Plain carrots are a good source of fiber and vitamin A. Humans can add a little hummus for some extra flavor and protein!
Apples and Peanut Butter – This snack provides fiber, healthy fat, and protein, all packed into one delicious treat! In our house, we have a nut allergy, so we opt for sunflower butter instead of peanut butter, feel free to do the same!
